We raised a BIG VOICE in the run-up to the election – but now that our new MPs have been chosen, it’s time to remind those in power of their responsibility to our poorest sisters and brothers.
We would like every Scottish MP to sign SCIAF’s Parliamentary Pledge – a written commitment to do everything they can to address the greatest injustices faced by our global neighbours.
We need you to send this pledge to your local MP and encourage them to sign it. If everyone in the SCIAF family does this, there’s no doubt our individual voices will come together to make a BIG difference!
What we want MPs to focus on:
- Fixing the food system: At the heart of the UK’s development plan there must be a commitment to tackle global hunger, fix food systems and promote sustainable food practices.
- Championing Climate Action: The UK must lead on tackling the climate crisis, given our role in creating it. All new fossil fuel investment must be stopped, with money spent on green, renewable energy instead.
- Restore Aid: In 2020, the UK reduced international aid spending from 0.7% of GNI to 0.5%. This resulted in millions of pounds being taken from the hands of the poorest people in the world, those struggling for food, clean water and shelter. This must be reversed.
- Challenging Corporate Power: A Business, Human Rights and Environment Act must be brought forward, ensuring UK companies prevent environmental harm and human rights abuses in their supply chains.
- Hope in the Holy Land: The UK has a moral obligation to advocate for a just and lasting peace for both Palestinians and Israelis in the Holy Land where security, human rights and equality are realised for all.
Will you help us build a better world? Send SCIAF’s pledge now!
