HISTORY IS WATCHING

What is happening in Gaza is a human catastrophe – unfolding in front of our very eyes.

Innocent families are still being attacked and maimed in Gaza. Illegal settlements are still expanding rapidly in the West Bank. And aid is still being deliberately withheld and blocked from reaching those who urgently need it, unleashing widespread suffering and a growing famine.

The little aid that is allowed is delivered in a way that favours the strong, not the weak; makes the hungry walk for hours a day amidst the violence; and is too little, too late. The people of Gaza are not starving - they are being starved.

If the actions of the Israeli Government do not change, hundreds of thousands of children will die from starvation. We cannot stand by and let this atrocity continue to unfold.

The horrific acts of terror by Hamas on October 7th were abhorrent and must be utterly condemned. The hostages must be released and those responsible held to justice.

However, the response of the Israeli Government has been disproportionate, cruel and has collectively punished the people of Gaza. The rules of war have not been followed, and the innocent people caught in the crossfire have suffered horrendously.

We believe the UK Government is still not doing enough to prevent Israel's actions or meet its own obligations under international law.

Make no mistake: history is watching how we respond to this atrocity. We cannot sit back and do nothing. Our voices can make a difference.

TAKE ACTION

We are asking you to contact your MP and urge them to stand on the right side of history. Using their elected authority, their seat in Parliament, they must demand the UK Government:

  • Stops all arms transfers to Israel immediately

While some UK arms licenses to Israel have been suspended, other arms deals remain in place. The UK Government has conceded that there is a clear risk of our arms exports being used in breaches of international humanitarian law. All sales must stop.

  • Suspends the existing TPA trade agreement between the UK and Israel

The text of the UK-Israel TPA, which currently provides privileged trade terms between the countries, identifies “respect for human rights” as an “essential element” of the agreement. Given Israel’s well-documented violations of international humanitarian law, it is impossible to see how the foundations of this agreement can still hold.

  • Bans trade and investment with illegal settlements in the West Bank

The UK government doesn’t ‘encourage’ deals with occupiers, but it needs to ban these activities outright and send a powerful message that it won’t be tolerated any more. This would be entirely consistent with the International Court of Justice advisory opinion 2024.

  • Does all it can to secure a permanent ceasefire, release of hostages and safe humanitarian access at scale for internationally trusted organisations

This is the key mechanism to stop suffering now and ensure those in need can access emergency support. The UK Government can and must do more to help secure this agreement.
